Bike Rider

When Joey first started school, we went and bought him a new bike. We wanted to get him one for his bday, but couldn't afford it right then, so we suprised him with it late.

He was so excited! He went out that day and we tried to teach him to ride it, but he just wasn't getting it. He got uber frustrated and gave up and we haven't been able to get him on it since.

Yesterday my MIL watched Joey instead of my mom {she went to a convention}. I sent his bike with him thinking maybe he would ride it out with the other kids in her neighborhood, but again - he wouldn't go near it. When she dropped us off, I put the bike on the sidewalk and told him to ride it to the house. I gave him a little shove and he was off. He peddled all by himself all the way to the apartment! He was so excited and asked if he could do it some more!

So, I threw my purse in the door and for 2 HOURS we went out bike riding! He loved going fast and doing it by himself. I was so proud, and at the same time wondered to myself "What the hell was he worried about?" ROFL.

So today I got him a brand new helmet (his old one was way too small), and it came with elbow & kneepads. We'll be taking his bike over to my moms later (having a bbq), and he can ride it there with all my nephews. Woot!

Isn't it sooo cool when those dear ones conquer something? Hate to say this Erin, but learning how to ride a bike is one of the first steps a young boy takes before becoming a man. Blink - he's driving, blink - he moves out, blink - he's in the army reserves. I'm a little maudlin today but it seems that fast.
