Harrington Home For Wayward Cats

I think we should have that sign posted on our front door. In Cat-Speak, of course.

Ya see, stray cats - or one's with home for that matter - have always been drawn to us for one reason or another. Every since DH and I have been together, our apartment (no matter where we've lived) has always been a haven...or a squatting pad for cats. This apartment is no exception.

Since we moved in one year ago we've found the following: A little tiny gray kitten on our doorstep, within weeks of moving in. We found a home for him within an hour or at an apartment a few buildings down.

A couple months later I found a poor malnutritioned orange tabby kitten, maybe 6-8 weeks old on our porch. I ran to the store to get some kitty milk & a dropper to feed her with until the humane society came to pick her up.

Most recently, it was Wally. He actually moved in with us and is still here. It's been a couple months now. He's a really sweet (and CLEAN) siamese kitty who's probably 8 months old or so...we think that he may be the offspring of one of OUR cats (Baby Cat), but we're not positive. Dont' know about kitty DNA tests.

Then tonight, we can add cat 4 to our list. I saw her for the first time last night, outside pouncing on crickets. DH said he saw her the other day. She's really small, probably only 3 months old or so. She seems to have been outside for some time b/c she has little 'i'm an outdoor cat' nicks on her poor ears, and burrs in her tail. I was outside a bit ago and heard a cat crying...I thought it was one of mine that wanted to go out or something. Joey looked over, about 15 feet away and told me there was a cute kitty. So I stood up to look. It was the same kitty as last night. She ran right over to me.

I couldn't very well let her out there to starve, or drown (it was about to storm). So I brought out a small dish of food for her. She got really cuddly, started relishing in the pets. Dh came out just as it started to downpour. She got scared by the thunder and ran off the porch directly into the rain. She darted back and forth trying to find someplace to go (DUH...our porch is dry you idiot!). She ended up running into the bush near where we 'found' her. She SCREAMED and SCREAMED. Joey started freaking out "You have to SAVE her!". Sooooo, being the bleeding heart that I am, I took off my socks and ran thru the mud in the pouring rain to save the kitten.

Joey brought out a towel so I could dry her off. She was SOAKED. Of course, that made her my best friend. She just sat there for a long time in the towel, puring and trying to make buscuits on my hand. I got up to get the phone and lost track of her. Figured, the rain let up and she ran back off. Nope. She came in the house. Probably when Joey came in. Sooooooooooooooooo...anybody need a cat? I can't keep her, ROFL. I'll put up more signs to see if anybody claims, and if not I'll put an ad on the internet (ebay? ROFL) to see if anybody wants her.

BTW, her name is "Stupid Cat" (for the stupid way she tried to go about getting out of the rain).

The next edition

By request, lol.

Well, Tuesday I got called in to work on only 2 hours of sleep. that really sucked. I had to take Joey with me b/c I didn't have a babysitter.

Wednesday, we got a suprise visit by these 2 ladies, who it turns out, are from a company that is outsourced by our corporate office. They did the inspection from hell. They came in at about 9am, and were there until 9pm. 12 hours of inspection. Nobody bothered to call Tristan - he had the day off. He left in charge a big ass lazy m'f'er who ended up running out the door around noon or one, I can't remember. Leaving poor ditzy Joette to fend for herself with the ladies, as well as trying to run an entire restaurant.

I have many, many, many complaints about this Matt character, but I won't get into that. He'll be gone in 4 weeks anyway (he's a mgr trainee for one of the stores in texas).

Yesterday, Sean (a good new manager trainee) came in. I told him about the inspection and he called Tristan. T didn't seem worried. 13 critical violations and 5 major. Now mind you, this wasn't the health department, but if it had been them....BAM. Yano.

I'm 99.9% sure that they were sent in there b/c of the numerous calls to corporate office about management, etc. I didn't call them or anything, i don't really want to be involved in that stuff. I'm chicken like that. But I know of about 7 or 8 people who DID contact corporate. and 2 or 3 of those contacted INS as well.

Tristan said today that it was a rumor that INS was coming in, and this had nothing to do with complaints, yadda yadda yadda. Well, INS *was* called. Who knows if they'll actually show up or not, since most of this states economy and jobs are taken by imigrants. Who knows. If they do show up, they can kiss about half of our back of the house crew goodbye. We'll see if it actually happens though.

But personally, I think Tristan should be more worried about his job than he seems to be. I"m going to start ignoring it and just do my job. It's causing me too much stress worrying about it, and I don't want the stress. I'm there to make my money and go home.

Don't know if I'm gonna get the job at the Outback. I never got a call back about the 2nd interview. I called on Wednesday and the shift manager said that 'if you passed the test then they'll call you'....and nobody's called. Oh well. I'm probably too old and fat to work there anyway. No matter that I'm a damn good waitress.
